About Harriet

First of all, I'm a massive history nerd! At the moment I'm doing a medieval history masters degree, where I'm learning all sorts of things about the Middle Ages. I love it because history is all about stories, its all about the weird details, and it's all about asking why. Curiosity is key - and I will always encourage that in any young person.

Before this, I was a teaching assistant in a secondary school, where I got really familiar with key stage 3 and GCSE English literature - from An Inspector Calls, to Jeckyll and Hyde. I can also teach you all I know about Of Mice and Men and various works of Shakespeare. Stuff that'll get you through the GCSE but hopefully stuff that'll get you interested in the text itself. I love reading, and I want you to love it too! If you don't, that's fine, sometimes it's just about getting the basics so you can move on with life.

School can be a rush, teachers can be short on time, so sometimes you need someone you can ask questions to and ask for help who's not going to make you feel silly. That's where I want to help. I want to help you get your grades, but also enjoy it. And if you just need help trying to get through the boring bits of Jeckyll and Hyde, that's fine. We can do this!

I have experience with SEND and SEMH - and have maximum respect for how hard this can make school. I hope to offer a non judgemental and empathetic approach to learning.

About the lesson

I will host one-to-one online tutoring sessions for English language and literature, from key stage 3 (from year 7) to GCSE level.

I prefer to offer student-led tutoring sessions where students decide what they need help with, contact me, and I will work out a plan of action to support. I have experience offering this kind of tutoring in a secondary school to students with a wide range of needs - particularly SEND (autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, cerebal palsy, GDD).

I will need to know the syllabus and exam board so I can prepare. Then it will be good to get to know the student initially to understand what they struggle with - processing language? Scribing answers? Understanding the text? Or do they just need grammar and spelling checked? Then we can come up with a plan of action.

My aim is to boost confidence and show understanding and empathy.

I can also help with history, other essay based subjects, RE, philosophy and ethics, health and social care b-tech, general homework help and key stage 3 biology.
