About Elizabeth

Hello, my name is Liza and I am a history student who is dedicated to helping peers to obtain a greater knowledge of history and to excel in their exams. I'm very passionate about the subject, and I make sure to use many different teaching methods that require the student to become more confident sharing opinions and not only understanding the history but enjoying learning about it too, and being able to relate it to other subjects and present-day events.

I am most educated in twentieth century history, and my favorite historical event to learn about is the Troubles in the North of Ireland. I myself am half Irish and half English, and I moved to Singapore in 2024.

I hope to succeed in sharing my knowledge and passion with students, and I hope that they will enjoy my classes.

About the lesson

I recognise that it is crucial for a student to learn through many different methods and mediums, and this is what I will aim to provide them throughout our lessons.

I will ensure to provide them with a personalised folder of sufficient resources for self study, such as practice exam papers, flashcards, videos, websites, and books.

If they are doing a standardised curriculum such as (I)GCSE, A/O Level, IB, etc., I will tailor classes to their syllabus and to what they are currently learning in their class at school.

During each class, I will present to them a PowerPoint of information about a certain topic/event and then we will discuss it between us, asking about their personal opinions and views about what happened. This can prove very helpful for essay questions that are common in history exams, in which they will have to debate on a subject and come to a conclusion about it.

I will note down which topics they tend to struggle with and also look over any practice questions they have done. I am happy to grade any work they submit to me, and, if the parents wish, I can set compulsory homework between lessons which I will also grade and give feedback on.

I am open to giving lessons between 1-3 hours (personally I will recommend 1-1.5 hours normally, and 1.5-3 hours during exam season). I would suggest to arrange classes once a week (probably more during exam season), and I am open to taking classes at any time in which I am free, most preferably during the weekend but weekdays are doable as well.

I am willing to teach online to any country, which can be arranged on a Zoom, Skype, or Google Meet call. I can also teach in-person in Singapore, and am willing to meet pretty much anywhere in the country to teach.

As a student myself, I do not have a lot of experience tutoring, however, I have tutored one student before and helped to raise the student's grades and confidence in the subject. I spend a lot of time studying history and obtain good grades in it myself, and am knowledgeable on a wide range of historical events, especially from the 20th century.

I am willing to teach students of any age and from any syllabus, however, I am most experienced teaching IGCSE content. However, I will take time to study any syllabus in order to teach it correctly. I am also willing to teach history classes focused around the student's interests, rather than a specific curriculum, in order to teach them more about history separate from their studies.
