About Christian

I have taught in colleges and universities in the US, Britain and Germany. It has (almost!) always been a thrill to learn alongside students and to work with their interests and cultivate their innate strengths as learners.
My experience of working with students runs the gamut from teaching Ivy League and Oxbridge students, office and factory employees, adult learners and students at community colleges. Each type of learner has their unique needs, advantages and challenges and one of the best aspects of the job is getting to learn more about students and how their education fits into their broader lives.
My first degree was from Oxford and my PhD from Yale. I've since taught in a variety of state and private colleges and universities.

About the lesson

In my lessons, we typically start by reviewing students' work and curriculum and getting a clear understanding of where students are having problems or where they could better meet and exceed their teachers' expectations.
From there, we think through how teachers and examiners assess writing and design exams so that students can make sure their extra work will deliver better results. We typically run through exercises, leaving time for me to read and comment on work. Sometimes we will work with assigned textbooks and sometimes design our own exercises to strengthen skills.
I have had experience of tutoring one-on-one for nearly 20 years and grew up with the tutorial system used at Oxford. I have found that students not only see results in terms of their written work improving but also in terms of their verbal fluency and confidence.
I am available to teach high school, undergraduate and graduate students as well as professionals seeking to improve their writing.
