About Amir
Hi everyone I look forward to meeting you all. My name is Mr Mekkawi and I believe we will make progress together. I expect you to try your best and ask for any help. It is my duty towards you that you grow with me and it is your duty to listen. If you have a question you raise your hand. I'm not entirely strict but as you can tell I work by rules. Rules that can still bring fun in the classroom. A bit about me. I have been tutoring for a few years now and I recently graduated in History and Politics. I am specialised in English and a few other subjects. My hobbies include football and occasionally games.

I have taught children from Year 7 up to Year 11 in sessions lasting for two hours. I start by assessing my student's understanding in order to spot gaps of knowledge. This is done by asking open-ended questions and guiding students to answers. For instance, I would ask: "what is the purpose of the writer using this technique?". One of my main teaching philosophies is teaching students to gain a deeper understanding of a topic, by connecting new concepts to prior knowledge, and the use of visual, verbal and symbolic representations. In my view, this encourages students to argue their viewpoints effectively. Providing support and not spoon-feeding is fundamental. I believe this is achieved by breaking tasks into manageable steps, while reducing assistance so students can build on their critical thinking. This can only be achieved by making learning engaging through the use of relevant real-world examples and students leading by examples to their peers when they teach ideas. The most important methodology is one that is psychological and ingrained upon the mentality I cultivate for students. I seek to praise students for their creative thought processes and to frame mistakes as opportunities to learn from. It is important to maintain a balanced mindset though to maintain high standards when it comes to behaviour and productivity. Once a student completes work I set more work whilst giving them a debrief on it.
