About Kathryn

My name is Kathryn and I've been passionate about history and teaching history for as long as I can remember. I used to tell people when I was little that I was going to grow up to be an archaeologist and now that I've finished my degree and begun working in the heritage industry I'm living that dream.
I've worked with young people before and I know how much learning history in a school setting can drain you of enthusiasm for the topic, because I hated it at secondary school myself! I told myself that if I ever got the chance, I'd make learning history fun for someone else and that's what I'd like to do for you.
I'll help you with the skills you need to learn, remember and enjoy history or archaeology and all it has to offer. Whether you're just starting out your learning journey or working towards a degree like I did, I'd like to help you on your way. You can be sure that I'll make the effort to meet your needs and together we'll have you loving history as much as I do.

About the lesson

Having suffered under the strain of inflexible teaching methods, I understand how difficult it can be to learn in an environment that's not tailored to your needs. That's why I will take the time to work with you and find the approach to learning that suits you the most.
Are you a visual learner? Then you can bet there will be plenty of diagrams headed your way.
Do you take in more information when it's entertaining? Well I'm very good at making even the dryest of historical topics interesting.
Maybe you like sticky notes like I do? Then we'll definitely get along nicely and learn a lot in the process.
I have experience in working with young people and teaching them in fun ways through my role as a leader with Girlguiding Scotland and I'm knowledgeable in historical topics across the globe. My specialist topics however are in Scottish and wider British/European history and archaeology. I studied at the University of the Highland and Islands to get my BA in History and Archaeology and now work in the heritage industry.
Lessons can be as short as half an hour or up to 2 hours long depending on your preferences and needs.
I can help with prelim and exam prep for Scottish National/Higher/Advanced Higher qualifications as well as GCSE and A Level exams. I can also help with revision for university level exams.
