About Margaret
I have many years' experience as a classically-trained (Royal Scottish Conservatoire and National Opera Studio) singer and actress, and have played numerous and varied principal roles with many major opera and commercial theatre companies, not only all over the UK (including the West End) but in many parts of the world, working with conductors and directors of international renown. My musical repertoire as a leading lady, covers opera, operetta and musical theatre. I am also an experienced "straight" actor, and concert and recording artist (classical and MT). I have many years of experience coaching/teaching students of all ages through schools, colleges, universities, and at home, and conducted master classes in vocal and performance skills.

It's official! Singing is good for you! I trained as an opera singer (and have performed many wonderful roles!) but I am very diverse in my tastes. I love working with people of all ages who want to learn to experience the joy of performing and expressing themselves, to the best of their abilities. That learning process should not only be informative and constructive, but also hugely enjoyable! To this end, and with the huge amount of professional experience I have behind me as a leading lady all over the world, together with all the knowledge I have as a vocal technician, I teach with great enthusiasm, in a clear and focused way, and always ensure that my students understand what they are doing technically and why. Building self-confidence and self-worth is also hugely important to me - and learning to "perform" is very beneficial to students of all ages, regardless of whether they want to be singers or actors, so, though I primarily teach people who are either already in the performing industry, or striving towards that, I also love teaching people who are not necessarily looking for a career as a performer, but just want to build their own self-confidence and - or indeed to further their business interactional or presentational skills. I begin my lessons with breathing and vocal exercises - and often physical exercises as the exercises help to establish and develop the vocal range, strength and control and I would then work with the student on whatever pieces we decide choose, building on the establishment of one's own unique voice with a good and sustainable vocal technique. My lessons are enjoyable and positive and I like all my students to leave feeling happy and good about what they have just achieved in their time with me. I generally give lessons of an hour's duration.

Philip Sheffield ( professional Opera singer )Maggie has a wealth of experience to share with the lucky students who take up tutorials with her. A West End performer on the Musical Theatre Stage, an operatically trained singer & actress. Maggie has so much to offer, she is a warm & encouraging teacher who loves to see her students thrive. With this online opportunity you can work with Maggie in your own home, benefitting from her one to one attention.
Whether you are a singer looking to develop your skills, someone returning to the profession or a relative newcomer, Maggie will work with you sharing her knowledge & expertise. Get in touch and find out more, you won't look back.I took a series of lessons with Maggie at the start of lockdown. She was knowledgable, patient, insightful and encouraging. The sessions while serious in intent were always fun. I would throughly recommend her.
At the second rehearsal of a musical in Dubai, I was confused and lost as I could not deliver the vocal projection the Director required of me. During the break, Maggie, who I had until then only admired from a distance every time she turned into Mother Abbess with her soaring voice, walked up to me. That was the first time she spoke to me.She gave me a couple of tips, and her voice and her choice of words had a huge positive impact on my confidence, so much so that, after the noon session, the director asked me if I was on some drug. That was the impact this wonderful person had on me in a matter of minutes. Many years later, she was also kind enough to allow my students to sing in a cover video with her. If you get a chance to learn under her, consider yourself lucky, because a teacher isn't someone who just passes skills to a student, but also has the magic touch to inspire one and build one's confidence.
I would thoroughly recommend you, as when you came to visit Ruckleigh School you gave fabulous advice and inspired our pupils. If you can visit again I would thoroughly welcome your experience and wonderful direction xx
I first met Margaret when I had been offered an audition for a choir and had to have a piece ready in 2 weeks. She listened to me, found a piece and had me ready for the audition. Of course I was accepted and being in the London Show Choir is amazing. I continued to have lessons once I’d been accepted and could hear myself improving, reaching those high notes which were previously out of reach.
I worked for a couple of days with Margaret as accompanist to her masterclass at a musical theatre college. She had a thorough knowledge of the songs and their background as well as other related musical material of the particular period that we were working on. She has a pleasant but firm realistic approach and managed to bring out the best in all of the students involved. A very pleasant 2 days. I would highly recommend Margaret to anyone who wants to learn lots about musical theatre and acting through song.
