About Sarah

I am a highly motivated, dynamic teacher of the Sciences, More specifically I am a specialist Biology/General Science teacher who has been teaching GCSE,IGCSE Biology, Physics and Chemistry and A level Biology for 17 years at Cheltenham College, a top UK independent co-educational boarding and day school in Gloucestershire, with excellent examination results.

I am someone who loves inspiring excitement of the subject in young people whilst initiating excellent results at IGCSE and A Level. Not only do I have experience in teaching AQA, OCR, Edexcel and Cambridge syllabi, but I have also been an Edexcel GCSE/IGCSE Assessment Associate Examiner for 4 years. I also have extensive experience in the competent collation, completion and submission of UCAS references, which has resulted in a high level of top Russel Group university acceptances. The reason for my attraction to tutoring is simply that, whilst I enjoy delivering high quality teaching and exceeding set academic goals, I am very keen to continue to use my acquired experience to help more young people who require the specialist help and pastoral guidance that I can provide. In addition to my extensive subject knowledge and experience working at both primary and secondary levels, my vast pastoral experience makes me well placed to cope with all kinds of learning needs. (Ranging from pupils with Special Educational Needs to those that are Gifted and Talented)

A team player, with a gregarious personality, I believe that I am approachable and have the vision and skills to be an asset as a one to one and group tutor. From a personal perspective, having already tutored for the last 4 years as an Online and as a 1 to 1 tutor, I bring what I hope is an international flavour as I am British born and have spent some years living and teaching in South Africa, but most importantly I also have a varied and thorough knowledge of the education system in the UK.

About the lesson

I am a highly experienced teacher and tutor at home and online of GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A level Biology, familiar with a number of different UK examination board subject specifications and training. I have excellent subject knowledge and am able to explain complex concepts with clarity, creativity and much patience where required. I am passionately committed to my pupils and always give of my time freely to support their learning. My lessons are 1 hour long, accomplished and I mark with detail and meaningful comments. I have led my students in school and online to many individual successes over the years, from Oxbridge entry through to achieving B grades at GCSE for students who needed a deal of individual tutoring to improve from a base of low attainment. I am warm and very approachable, as well as a highly effective team player and gifted at giving confidence to others – particularly those who might be finding things tough - and making everyone feel valued.

Hi Sarah Tomas had a really good lesson today. We are going through his AS syllabus in preparation for his Mock examination after half term. He responded well to the questions asked and is starting to think of the syllabus as a whole, but he will need to put a lot of work in for his Mocks...we will do a lot of preparation and I will give him lots of help over half term! I look forward to helping him and enjoy teaching him!
