About Sehra
Hello! My name is Sehra Mittra, and I am dedicated to helping students bridge the gap between struggling with math and truly mastering it. As a high school student who has successfully navigated advanced mathematics, I bring a unique, firsthand perspective to tutoring. As a current high school student who has successfully navigated multiple levels of mathematics, I have a fresh, firsthand understanding of exactly where and why students get stuck. Because the age gap is smaller, students feel more comfortable speaking up when they are confused.
My philosophy is rooted in conceptual understanding over rote memorization. Instead of asking students to blindly memorize formulas, I focus on why a mathematical concept works. When a student understands the underlying logic, they don't just pass their next test—they build a foundation that makes future math classes significantly easier. I also understand that every student learns in a different way. My ability to pivot my explanation on the fly and tailor my pace, tone, and examples to match each student's unique learning style and personality allows every student to learn and succeed.
In a typical lesson, I begin with an interactive lecture on the specific topic the student needs help with. I introduce the core principles and break down the “why” behind the math, asking guiding questions along the way to ensure they understand what is being taught. Next, we move into hands-on problem solving. We can work through the student's current school homework, or I can provide tailored practice problems. I conclude the lesson by summarizing the key takeaways and addressing any doubts, ensuring the student feels confident.
