About Lok Kay

Hi! I'm an 18-year-old Singaporean who recently graduated from high school in Los Angeles, California, and I'm currently serving National Service in Singapore. I completed both AP Spanish Language and Culture (score: 4) and IB Spanish SL (score: 6), giving me first-hand experience with both curricula and the skills needed to succeed in them.

As a native English speaker, I understand the challenges English-speaking students often face when learning Spanish. Living in Los Angeles also gave me many opportunities to communicate with native Spanish speakers in everyday situations, helping me become comfortable using the language outside the classroom.

Since I completed these courses recently, I understand the topics students find most challenging and the exam techniques that can make a difference. Whether you're learning Spanish for the first time or aiming to improve your grades, I'll tailor each lesson to your goals and learning style.

I'm patient, approachable, and always encourage students to ask questions without worrying about making mistakes. My goal is to help you build a strong foundation in Spanish while developing the confidence to use the language both in exams and in real-life situations.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to each student's level and goals, whether you're learning Spanish for the first time or preparing for an upcoming exam. I focus on building a strong foundation in grammar and vocabulary while also developing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. I believe students learn best by actively using the language, so every lesson includes opportunities to practise Spanish in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes long and can be conducted online or in person in Singapore. I mainly use the student's school materials so that our sessions reinforce what is being taught in class and prepare them for quizzes, assignments, and examinations. I can also provide additional practice exercises and explanations whenever needed.

Having recently completed both AP Spanish Language and Culture and IB Spanish SL, I understand the challenges students face because I have gone through the same learning process myself. As a native English speaker who graduated from high school in Los Angeles, I also had many opportunities to communicate with Spanish speakers in everyday situations, allowing me to develop practical conversational skills alongside my academic studies. I've also helped my younger brother with his Spanish studies, giving me experience explaining grammar and vocabulary in a clear and patient way.

I welcome complete beginners, primary and secondary school students, and those taking IB Spanish or AP Spanish Language and Culture. My goal is to help students improve their grades, strengthen their understanding of Spanish, and become more confident using the language both inside and outside the classroom.
