• Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

  I first used a computer at school as was really excited and curious. I'm not even sure I was really listening to what I was being told as I was just keen to push buttons and find out for myself!

• What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

  This will probably be the mobile phone - I have seen them go from very large to quite small to large again and its amazing what we can do with a mobile phone now compared to a couple of decades ago. A turning point will be the evolution to a more virtual experience and perhaps even it being integrated within our bodies - can you imagine!?

• Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

  My expertise is in spreadsheet software, particularly Microsoft Excel. I just love it as a tool to organise quite literally your life, your projects, your business, etc. It is important in the computer world because it is a very accessible tool that anyone can learn easily but also a powerful tool that can solve complex problems.

• Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

  Yes, these visionaries definitely inspire me because they have solved problems and made them very accessible to the masses. And in a way that seems very effortless.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  I moved to the UK from Kenya around high school and the difference was huge! I remember being in a classroom in my new school on the first day and getting up to say ‘greet' the teacher as I had been used to in Kenya before the lesson started. And then quickly realised that I was the only one who stood up with eyes glaring including the teachers! Very embarrassing.

• What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated”?

  It can be complicated but with the right guidance and a readiness to learn you can absolutely learn it. It doesn’t matter how long it may take you and it may be difficult initially but remember your motivation for learning and give yourself time and practice.

• What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

  I love learning languages - Spanish in particular and playing basketball.

• What makes you a Superprof in IT?

  What makes me a superprof is my ability to train different people - no matter your ability or background or age.
