About Delonie

I have taught English/Spanish for 13 years. I've had the opportunity of working with children, adults and seniors. From my childhood I felt a special calling to become a teacher. I've come to realize that teaching is a work from the heart, academics can be taught, but can you teach patience, genuine care, understanding, kindness, a desire to see others succeed? I believe in taking a personal interest in my students, building that human connection is as important as their academic success. And this is one of the reasons that I'd say has made me a successful teacher.

About the lesson

My lesson plans are far from traditional and are created to help students understand that learning a new language doesn't have to be a daunting experience. I too have experienced the struggles of learning a second language and I'm glad that I'm able to relate to my students in this way, because I can apply what I've learned from this in my classes.

As a teacher, I believe in always listening to my student's needs, I encourage student autonomy which helps build biculturalism skills and creates confidence and comfort when interacting with anyone, anywhere. So in my class we'll learn while having fun!

Things you can expect in my class:
- Learning and putting in to practice language that is current (so you can relate to the other person during a conversation)
- No judgement or negative feedback (you mispronounce a word? mistakes are a part of your learning, let's try again)
- Making language simple (conjugations won't seem that intimidating)
- We don't overlook common mistakes and practices (we start from zero, vowel and consonant sound and their proper use)
- Fun activities such as role-playing, board games, cooking activities, real life situations etc...

I have been taking lessons from Delonie for about a year now. She is great!!!!She has formal education in Spanish & English and also in teaching. She is SUPER enthusiastic & motivating and makes the lessons fun & engaging. I can have conversations in Spanish now & used my new skill to speak and understand Spanish when I went to Peru 3 months ago.
She is also a stickler about speaking without a strong accent. Last week a native Spanish speaker told me that my accent was good!!!!
I would definitely recommend Delonie.

If I could leave 1000 stars I would! Delonie is hands down the most patient, outgoing & understanding! She makes sure you understand what you’re studying and makes sure you are pronouncing everything PERFECTLY. She continues to remind you DO NOT get frustrated with yourself… you’re learning an entire new language… and that helps so much. Some of our sessions are more difficult than others but I still leave knowing I for sure learned and will continue to push! She’s a great support as well.

Every online and in-person class is 1 - 1 and tailored specifically to your learning needs.

We focus on progressing from the level that you're at, but we can also work on things that you currently need such as vocabulary, conversation, pronunciation, reading comprehension etc... want to say a specific phrase, question or word? We can do that too! It's your journey :)

The classes online are interactive so that it has an in-person feel to it, time flies when learning is fun!
