About Alan
I have many years of experience teaching English abroad in Asia, I have a decade of experience teaching English courses abroad, particularly in Thailand. Not only have I taught a wide variety of English courses (grammar, writing, conversation, reading/literature), but have also had supervisory experience over other English teachers. In addition to teaching and supervision, I have plenty of experience helping students with their college and study abroad program applications and writing, editing, and advising on English textbook content and design. In addition to work experience, my educational background includes majoring in English language and literature, taking a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification course, and taking courses in communication sciences and disorders.
Being enthusiastic and passionate about teaching and learning myself, I deeply desire to help my students engage and enjoy learning too! Patience, kindness, perseverance, and reliability would also be good personal traits used to describe me.
On a lighter note, when I am not teaching, you might find me reading a good book,relaxing with family and friends, drinking excessive amounts of coffee, traveling, or hiking

My lessons are for high school and university students seeking assistance in their English courses (reading/literature, writing, and/or grammar). I love interacting and discussing all things English with my students and desire to show the significance and relevance of the lesson content through various engaging topics and activities; variety and creativity are crucial when teaching and attempting to assess students' skills, abilities, and passions so that all discussions, activities, and assignments are not seen as another mundane task or chore, but are matched with skills and interests of each student or presented in an intriguing format and manner. It is not only my job to help students work through their English assignments but also to motivate and encourage them in ways that help them TRULY LEARN the content, not simply memorize the facts to get a passing score on an exam. Every subject/topic is interesting and nothing is/has to be boring. Even carefully reading and analyzing a long, complex novel has immense value and does not have to be a tortuous activity if done rightly! :)
High school and college students are strongly encouraged to keep learning, and please know I am here to help. Do not give up when something is difficult or dry. All of you are welcome here!

Details
I am also happy to teach half or whole semester courses in literature and writing/grammar. For those interested, please contact me for details. Course outlines and materials will be provided. Half semester courses would be priced around $250, and whole semester courses would cost $400. A course deposit fee would be required upfront and payment installment plans would be available for the remaining balance.
