About Segalit
I was born in Tel Aviv, Israel raised in Brooklyn, New York, moved to Los Angeles in 1977. Attended UCLA. Received a BA in English Literature and a Minor’s degree in diversified liberal arts, have a multi subject clear credential from UCLA and single subject Credential in English. I worked for LAUSD from 1984-2020. I’m married and have two sons with special needs who are highly gifted as well.
My husband works part time as a dentist and it’s been a challenge with the four of us living together under one roof. My parents were immigrants to this country and all they could say was ok. They adapted, had 4 children, I’m the eldest and they both worked very hard.
I paid my way through UCLA but I lived at home and had a part-time job and walked everywhere.
My sons are ages 28 and 24. My older son graduated UCLA with a double major in History and Mathematics, and is working on his dissertation towards a PhD in Mathematics. My younger son designed his own major at UC Berkeley and earned a Master’s degree in Urban Regional Planning and Design and a Certificate for him to work in this field. Right now he has to finish his Capstone project and he will do anything but that.
It stresses me out more than him!

My teaching approach is to informally assess Where a student is at and then I continue from where they are.
As a teacher, I received few students who were at grade level and I taught 4th grade and these students were basically illiterate. I used project based learning to engage their learning which is not accepted at low performing schools.
