About Joan
Teaching singing is rarely about finding the perfect voice, but rather about uncovering the one you already have. My work focuses on the mechanics of breathing control and resonance to support your unique sound.
I hold an MMus from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins. Over 8 years of experience have taught me that tone and vibrato control require specific, methodical attention.
My 377 students range from young kids to adults seeking vocal freedom. I specialize in bridging the gap between head and chest voice for better range.
Diction and articulation are vital components of the Italian tradition I teach. Microphone technique and stage fear management are included for those interested in public performance. We will develop a personalized song list built around each student's range. This strategy ensures you remain engaged and motivated throughout our time together.

Struggling with pitch control is often a symptom of tension rather than a lack of musicality. I often tell my students that I am essentially an athletic coach for their vocal cords. Beginners and intermediate learners alike benefit from my structured approach to warm up exercises and belting technique. Drawing on 8 years of experience, I simplify the complexity of belting and resonance.
You will find that my lessons are practical and rooted in clear, physical sensations. We make sure that your progress feels manageable and logically sequenced.
It is rewarding to watch a student finally overcome a difficult technical barrier. I enjoy seeing the confidence that grows alongside your improved vocal range. Keeping the sessions focused on your growth is my primary objective. I look forward to hearing your voice evolve over the coming months.
