About Michael
Students can feel confident learning with me because I bring both academic depth and real leadership experience to my teaching. In high school, along with leading the Poetry Club, I was a three-sport varsity captain (Basketball, Cross Country, and Golf), which taught me how to communicate clearly, motivate others, and create an environment where people feel supported rather than judged. It also shows that I am not a total loser for loving English :). I love to travel, to hike, and play the guitar. I love photography, and I love wearing a suit with loafers. As a tutor, along with getting to know you, I will show up prepared, organized, and fully invested into your growth, offering a balance of high expectations and encouragement that consistently helps you improve and feel proud of your progress.

My lessons draw on the rigorous English training I received at an elite NYC high school and the interdisciplinary coursework I now pursue at Harvard in History & Literature, English, Comparative Literature, and poetry. I teach students how to read closely, think critically, and write with intention. The skills I refined through published poetry, extensive workshop experience, and even a seminar on Bob Dylan that deepened my understanding of voice and lyric craft (I do also play the guitar if looking for a quick music break). A typical session blends discussion, guided analysis, and individualized writing support, whether we’re structuring and coming up with ideas for a college essay or sharpening literary argumentation. I work best with motivated middle-school, high-school, and early college students who want concrete steps, clear feedback, and a tutor who can translate advanced ideas into accessible, confidence-building practice.
