About Catherine

I began singing as a chorister in St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh, graduated with an honours degree in music from The University of Durham, and was a founder member of the a cappella group Voces8. I then trained on the prestigious postgraduate Opera Studies programme at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Over 12 years based in London I enjoyed a varied career as a singer and educator. I have recently moved back to Scotland and have a private singing and musicianship studio in Glasgow. I have previously taught musicianship to undergraduates at Guildhall School of Music & Drama and on National Youth Choir of Great Britain residential courses.

About the lesson

As a teacher I am encouraging, empathetic and fun. I have an in-depth knowledge of music theory, musicianship and sight-singing and adapt my teaching style to suit each pupil. I have experience preparing students for Grade 5 theory exams and helping people improve their sight-singing. I teach all levels from beginner to professional. LGBTQ+ friendly, neurodivergent friendly, ADHD friendly.

Catherine is an extremely experienced singer who is passionate about her craft. Her enthusiasm for singing makes her lessons joyful and fun, but they are also focussed and very productive.

Catherine has a wealth of technical understanding about the singing voice which she can explain in terms that are easy to understand. She has extensive knowledge of classical performance practices. I was new to singing in my first lessons with Catherine and found her coaching highly informative and easy to follow.

I would recommend Catherine to anyone looking to improve their singing in the classical tradition.
