About Jacquelyn

As a finance major I have mastered self-organization and am excited to share more of Latin-American culture with students, particularly my own! Ethnically I am from El Salvador, I was born in Palo Alto, grew up in San Mateo, studied in Santa Barbara and San Francisco, and now I am living and working in Belmont, CA. As a proud Californian I am enthusiastic about sharing the differences in Spanish and English I have learned throughout the coast. As enthusiastic as I may be about teaching Spanish, I understand the pace of learning is different for everyone as well as their confidence levels. Very often students may shy away from practicing a skill they have not perfected yet because of lack of confidence, I'm here to remind all students that discomfort is the price of success!! At times learning a new language feels silly and awkward but that's part of the learning process! That being said, I believe the classroom is a safe space for all students and should be a place where learning is respected.

About the lesson

As a Hispanic American woman I have learned all levels of Spanish and English. Different vernaculars exist within any language whether it is slang, pop culture references, acronyms, regional terms and at-home vocabulary. My goal is to enthusiastically help all my students feel confident in speaking their Spanish openly, knowing that their Spanish sounds more relaxed and relatable than formal or "by-the-book" Spanish. I believe language is power and students will find enjoyment in exploring a lifelong tool they already possess, their voice.

As I begin to expand my superprof profile and work with new students, I plan to keep my standing rate at 23/hr but plan to drop this rate to 20/hr after the first 2 months. Thank you all for your consideration.
