About Derek
My name is Derek and I am a recently graduated Mechanical Engineer from the University of Ottawa. During my time at university, I excelled in subjects such as Calculus I & II, Linear Algebra, and Statistics and Thermodynamics.
I have also had the opportunity to put my knowledge and skills into practice through various co-op and engineering projects, where I received exceptional performance reviews for my strong communication skills and for hard work ethic. I have also over seven years of experience working with the youth as a Camp Counsellor at a canoe-tripping camp.
Furthermore, I am confident in my ability to teach all levels of high school and middle school math and I am committed to providing a high-quality learning experience for my students.

I'm a highly experienced mechanical engineer who graduated summa cum laude and excelled in my mathematics courses. I scored A+ in Calculus I, II, Linear Algebra, and Statistics, and I'm passionate about helping others succeed in these subjects, as well as all levels of high school and middle school math.
My approach to tutoring is centered around the individual needs of each student. I believe that the key to success in mathematics is to understand the concepts, rather than just memorizing formulas. To this end, I'll begin by explaining the concepts in an easy-to-understand manner, providing examples and helping you develop intuition.
Once you have a solid understanding of the concepts, we'll start working on problem sets to reinforce your learning. I'll provide you with challenging but achievable problems, and I'll be there every step of the way to guide you and help you find solutions.
In addition to providing you with the knowledge and skills you need to excel in mathematics, I'll also be a patient and supportive tutor who will encourage you to reach your full potential. Whether you're struggling with a particular topic or just need some extra practice, I'm here to help.
