About Ayan
I first started teaching when I was a Bachelor's student and offered the chance to teach a student who
was taking A-Levels. I was initially unsure, and thought I did not quite have the background to teach and
wasn't sure if I would be a good teacher. After my first student's results were not satisfactory, it only
increased my doubt and I ceased to teach for some months. I didn't think so until the student's family told
me that I was a good teacher — that his lack of performance was due to him and not to me.
With some trepidation, I started teaching again, this time with two students at two levels of education. I
quickly learned that I'm not a bad teacher, I'm just not the kind that they were accustomed to being. And
I was just starting out running with them. These two students gave me good results, so finally I could feel
good as a teacher and feel confident about my teaching method.
Since then, I've evolved into a teacher who looks more like a facilitator than a source of easy answers: I
make sure to guide a student through a process to arrive at the answer, and have them solve problems
themselves. Now I’m into 8th year of teaching, in both Pakistan and Russia.

My aim in all courses is to make students aware not only of the theory but also of the practical aspect of
the course.
My goal in math is to help students comprehend the meaning of a formula, when and why it exists, and
when a certain technique is appropriate. I don't want to just have students memorize a formula without
context.
For subjects like physics, chemistry, computer science, I teach theory and then implementation, therefore
students learn from both sides of a topic and have a thorough knowledge.
All of this is based on the logical reasoning of the students: I want them to have a good grip on the basics
of a topic, so that they can refer to it at any time in further studies and in everyday life when needed.
For courses such as software or technical courses generally, I try to give students the opportunity to use
their own resources first to solve a problem or answer a question, and only offer information and guidance
when they need it and when they are not able to solve a problem or answer a question on their own.
This is the teaching identity that I have developed in two countries in eight years, identity that has been
shaped by some initial failures, but also by many achievements, and that I will welcome in a university
classroom
