About Philippa

I am relatively new to the tutoring world, having helped my friends and family throughout their studies. I have helped people achieve a 2:1 in their degree, when they were predicted to just scrape a pass and I did this by being encouraging and explaining theories and ideas to them. Discussing your thoughts on a subject is so important in helping you to digest the information.

About the lesson

I'm Philippa and I am a tutor for AS and A-level Philosophy and Ethics. My techniques and methods for tutoring is to focus on building extensive knowledge of scholars and influential thinkers of the subject, as the more philosophical theories you know, the better. I also emphasise the importance of essay structure and how to convey a convincing argument, backed up with lots of evidence and bouncing philosophers off one another. Being able to write a very well argued essay is half of the battle of succeeding in Philosophy.

As a tutor I am encouraging and empathetic, as I have studied this subject at A-level and remember all the hard work I had to put in to achieve the A* I did. I know from experience that if you put in the hard work and to learn and learn and learn, you will see the results that you want. I am understanding, but I won't let you give up!
