About Courtney
I am a composer, flutist and music educator, moving between London and Sydney as required for my career.
I have a Bachelor's of Music (Composition) with First Class Hons, from the Sydney Conservatorium, and a Master's of Music (Composition) from the Royal Academy of Music, London. In addition, I also have my Certificate, Associate and Licentiate Diplomas in Flute Performance.
I began teaching flute at the age of 16, and quickly fell in love with it!
I love teaching, and especially love students who love music, regardless of their ability.
I have taught students from a wide variety of levels and backgrounds, from those playing flute, piano or singing for fun, to those studying for their performance and/or musicology Diploma AMEB exams, preparing for scholarship auditions, or helping with HSC composition and essay writing. I am also able to help with advanced harmony, aural skills and dictation for undergraduates.
I have also given composition masterclasses to senior students in private schools in Sydney, as well as teaching flute and school ensembles from years 3-8.

It's important for me to shape my lessons to the student, and their current motivations, goals and level. I try to be clear and efficient, while maintaining calmness, warmth and good humor, so that my students always feel comfortable with me. At the same time, I always have high expectations, even if that is just to try your best and find joy in the music we learn together!
With younger students, I keep lessons fast-paced and fun, moving between games, technical exercises and repertoire. For beginner students, I recommend 30min lessons, moving up to 45min and 1hr with experience. Please ask if you're not sure what would be right for you!
Based on your interests, I'm happy to explore these concepts during lessons: flute performance and technique, music theory and musicology, music history, harmony and analysis, aural skills including sight singing, melodic dictation and solfege, composition, improvisation, arranging and orchestration.

Courtney is a wonderful tutor for my daughter. She is very patient, and explains everything very clearly until she understands. I highly recommend Courtney.
Courtney is an incredible tutor. She makes complex topics accessible with a warmth that allows students to feel safe and to challenge their potential. She has made an enormous difference to my daughter’s learning and I fully recommend her.
Having had Courtney teach my daughter over several years, and knowing her for even longer, I can’t recommend her enough! Not only is she such a warm, caring, and genuine person, she is a very knowledgeable and professional teacher who goes above and beyond for her students. She is organised and always provides well-planned and structured lessons that have helped my daughter grow in so many ways. Thank you Courtney x
Courtney is definitely the best English tutor I have ever had. She makes Year 12 English fun and has helped grow my confidence in writing so much. I used to overcomplicate everything but now I never overthink in English. Thank you Courtney for all of your help and if anyone is looking for a tutor in English I would certainly recommend.
