About Gloria

Hello, my name is Gloria, and it would be my pleasure to be your teacher. I am currently residing in Texas with my husband and daughter, but I am originally from Bogota, Colombia and Spanish is my native language. It has been said that the Spanish that is spoken in Colombia is the purest form spoken in all South America and when I travel around South America people immediately know I am from Colombia based on my Spanish.

So, In addition to being a native speaker of the language I am also a Psychologist. Why is this important? As a Psychologist part of my training dealt with how people learn and how to fit specific tools to aid each individual accomplish their goals. What this means, is that no two people learn a language the same way. I use several teaching tools such as language, conversational videos, music videos and games that will help the student in remembering words and phrases.

I feel that am uniquely qualified to understand people and how they learn. This is why, I am confident that I can help each and every student meet their goals. In closing I would like you to remember the following phrase which you can use on a daily basis, Gracias Por Todo, which means thank you for everything.

About the lesson

Each lesson plan should begin with reviewing the previous lesson’s objective and confirming there are no unanswered questions that need to be addressed. Then I would introduce the words/phrase of the day or week, their meaning, the correct pronunciation, and possible sound-alike words that could be confusing.

Depending on the student's age, music is a great learning tool, as well as introducing videos that show the words being used and how they should not be used. Then I like to talk about feelings, slang, and other expressions that can be confusing if used in conjunction with the words in the lesson of the day. Several games and additional items, such as drawings and other videos, can be used as teaching tools; however, all the tools used must be age specific. As we all know, while most of us are visual learners, there are exceptions. Good working knowledge of the student’s background and goals is imperative.

Finally, I will use the new words in a conversation with the student to ensure they understand precisely how they should be used and have them repeat the operative words in a sentence.
