About Sam

My name is Sam , and I am a philosophy student at the University of Oxford,I specialise in teaching philosophy, economics, and politics. My academic journey has been driven by a deep curiosity and passion for understanding the world through various lenses. At Oxford, I have honed my analytical and critical thinking skills, enabling me to approach complex subjects with clarity and insight.

Why I Want to Teach

Teaching is not just a profession for me; it is a calling. Here’s why I am passionate about teaching A-Level students:

I believe that education is a transformative experience. By sharing my knowledge and passion for philosophy, economics, and politics, I aim to inspire curiosity and a love for learning in my students. I want to ignite that spark of interest that makes students eager to explore and question the world around them.

I am committed to empowering students by equipping them with the skills they need to succeed academically and in life. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are essential tools that go beyond the classroom. My goal is to help students develop these skills, fostering their confidence and independence.

I strive to make learning an engaging and relevant experience. By connecting abstract concepts to real-world applications, I help students see the value and significance of what they are learning. This approach not only makes the material more interesting but also helps students retain and apply their knowledge.
Teaching allows me to grow and learn continuously. Each student brings unique perspectives and challenges, pushing me to adapt and refine my teaching methods. This dynamic interaction keeps me motivated and passionate about my work.

My Approach to Tutoring: Philosophy, Economics, and Politics A-Level

Techniques and Teaching Methodology

My teaching methodology is rooted in the Socratic method, fostering critical thinking through dialogue and questioning. Here’s how I ensure effective learning:

1. Interactive Discussions: I encourage students to engage actively in discussions, questioning assumptions and exploring different viewpoints. This helps develop their critical thinking and analytical skills.
2. Customized Learning Plans: Each student is unique. I tailor my lessons to fit their individual needs, strengths, and areas for improvement, ensuring a personalized learning experience.
3. Structured Lessons: Each session follows a clear structure, starting with a review of previous content, introduction of new concepts, guided practice, and ending with a summary and Q&A.
4. Real-World Applications: I relate concepts to real-world scenarios, making subjects more relatable and easier to understand.
5. Exam Techniques: I provide specific strategies for tackling A-Level exam questions, including essay writing tips, time management skills, and how to construct well-argued responses.

Typical Length of a Lesson

Each lesson typically lasts 60 minutes. This duration is optimal for covering substantial content without overwhelming the student. However, I am flexible and can adjust the lesson length based on the student’s needs and concentration span.

• Teaching Skills: I have developed effective teaching skills through both formal training and practical experience. My ability to break down complex ideas into manageable concepts has been highly praised by my students and their parents.

• Level: My lessons are specifically designed for A-Level students, but I am also equipped to tutor GCSE students or anyone with an interest in philosophy, economics, or politics.
• Age: While my primary focus is on high school students (ages 16-18), I am open to tutoring younger students who show an interest in these subjects or older students looking to deepen their understanding.
