About Charlie

Charlie Humphrey-Lewis is a Midlands-born musician, improviser and trumpet player. Since graduating from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I have worked actively within the Birmingham music scene, performing a variety of genres from jazz to pop and classical. I have been fortunate enough to have recently performed both nationally and internationally at The Spotted Dog, Cheltenham Jazz festival, Siena Jazz Festival and the ‘Ensembles Festival’ in Paris.

I am seeking students who are keen and to whom I can pass on my love and passion for music.

I believe it is highly important to develop your ability in managing the beast of an instrument that is the trumpet, I, therefore, place a high amount of focus and time into developing my own proficiency on the horn. It is also important to develop your skills to be an all-round musician, so heavily focus also on ear-training, rhythm concepts, instrumental techniques, transcription, theory, composition, and much more, all of which I can cover in lessons!

About the lesson

Each student I teach receives specifically tailored lessons that are personal to their own current ability, following a plan that enables the maximum development possible.

Having played the trumpet for over 13 years, I have a great understanding of performance and technical skills as well as both classical and jazz theory concepts, I can cover all ranges of ability from beginner to super-advanced.

I have a long list of topics we can cover but I'm very open to working on things that students want to bring to lessons as well as I believe it is important to allow exploration of personal interests, maintaining interest throughout studying with me. Lessons are fun, and enjoyable and can be done in person and online.
