About Shannon

I am an actor and tutor, trained under the BA Acting course at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. My training at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama has covered Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov and Jacques Lecoq techniques.

I currently teach the LAMDA syllabus at 2 schools, covering students aged 13-18.

I have worked with top drama school tutors, industry directors, and theatre companies and directed a few productions, such as The Crucible, and performed stand-up comedy at the SOHO Theatre, the Comedy Store, and various comedy clubs across London! I am also an alumnus of the SOHO Theatre Writers' Lab. Currently, I am signed with a top London talent agency and working with BBC Comedy in a talent development lab. Furthermore, as a recent graduate, I have up-to-date tips on the audition process for drama schools, having worked with the panellists for the past two years.

I have tutored many young students for LAMDA exams, many of whom have earned distinctions, and I am familiar with the examination criteria.

About the lesson

I will tailor the classes depending on the student's individual needs, be it for LAMDA exams, drama school entrance or general help with monologues. Lessons are generally about 1 - 1.5 hours long, depending on the student's needs. I have worked with top drama school tutors, audition panellists, as well as coached some students in the LAMDA exams and drama school auditions.

Shannon has been an incredible Chinese teacher to my daughter for three years, guiding her through the language with remarkable patience and expertise. Despite my daughter not being a native Chinese speaker, Shannon’s unique approach, using drama and creative techniques, has made learning both engaging and enjoyable. Her dedication to her craft shines through in every lesson, and my daughter has flourished under her instruction. I cannot recommend Shannon highly enough—she is truly excellent!

Shannon is an excellent tutor who is kind, funny, and understanding. She prepared me very well for all my exams and is the best teacher I've ever had! She always finds new ways of explaining things to me if I don't understand and she is also super patient because I wasn't very confident.

Find out more about Shannon

1) When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?
I started in 2019, tutoring at a community centre for underprivileged kids. There, I found that teaching came very naturally to me as I find it fun to break down concepts and explain them to people, figuring out the 'why' and 'how' in every subject matter is deeply important and engaging for me. I then started to tutor professionally, amassing over 30 clients at one point.
2) Which artists or works affect you the most?
Theatre practitioners such as Bertolt Brecht and Michael Chekhov inspire me a lot. I enjoy watching films with great actors who disappear into their roles such as Helena Bonham Carter.
3) What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?
Patience, attention to detail, and the willingness to fail.
4) What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?
Don't shut yourself off to other experiences just to get a project done. Inspiration to create comes from living life, and you can't expect to create great work without having balance.
5) How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?
It makes me feel excited for the opportunities that are coming, and motivated to push on in the face of adversity.
6) What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?
Getting into drama school, signing to a reputable agency, performing my own stand-up at professional gigs and writing my own work that's been staged and filmed.
7) Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?
All the time! Once I had a student who during our first lesson couldn't even recognize basic words, but within two months, started scoring almost full marks in her tests - it was remarkable. Eventually, she got to the point of being so self-sufficient in the language she didn't need to have classes as frequently anymore which was a joy to see.
8) Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?
Being kind to my students and taking the time to understand their needs.

Graduate from drama school, worked with audition panelists from top drama schools, and very well-versed with the LAMDA syllabus with a relaxed, fun approach!
