About Tyra
Tyra Grove (she/her/hers) is a dedicated teaching artist, filmmaker, and curriculum developer whose work centers on creating inclusive, imaginative, and emotionally enriching learning environments. She currently serves as the Lead Teaching Artist and Curriculum Developer at Congo Square Theatre and the Lead Teaching Artist at Mudlark Theatre in Chicago, IL. In both roles, she designs and implements innovative, student-centered programming for inner-city schools and community partners that draws on timely, age-appropriate themes to cultivate creativity, empathy, and interpersonal skills through the performing arts. Tyra’s approach is rooted in the belief that a safe, playful, and collaborative classroom is essential for meaningful learning. Her teaching philosophy prioritizes adaptability, ensuring that each student’s needs and group dynamics guide the evolution of her curriculum. She creates comprehensive yearly syllabi, while allowing space for flexibility to meet learners where they are, especially those who require additional support to reach their full potential.

In my classroom, creativity is not a luxury, it is the heartbeat of learning! I aim to create a warm, vibrant, and joyfully expressive space where students are free to take risks, make mistakes, and most importantly, try again. The goal is learning not in spite of failure, but because of it.
By nurturing their imaginations, honoring their identities, and fostering an ensemble spirit, I prepare students to be compassionate, empathetic artists. Above all, I am committed to empowering each child to embrace who they are, to express it fully, and to use that truth as the foundation of their lifelong learning journey.
