About Gavin
I am a personable, thoughtful and dependable grade 12 student who loves working with kids. I am eager to share my love of math with younger kids and to help them become confident students who also love math.
I believe building a good connection is critical to ensure students enjoy our sessions. So a little about me; I am a dedicated athlete (rugby) who loves sports (skiing, mountain biking, wrestling, weight lifting and soccer) who also loves cooking, and pets. We currently have two Great Danes, and have had dogs, a parrot, rodents, and aquariums with eels, a shark, clownfish and a large assortment of fish. In short, I have many topics to connect with students about! I understand that elementary school can be tricky for students to navigate and I want to help them build their confidence through fun, supported lessons they will enjoy.
I thrive in math classes, and continue to take extended math courses (calculus, advanced topics in math) both inside and outside of my regular school schedule. I enjoy math competitions and online coding classes. These academic experiences have prepared me to support younger students in developing their math skills, using a variety of approaches.

I offer in person sessions in West Vancouver area or virtually, for students from kindergarten to grade 8.
Building a good connection and making lessons fun are the keys to helping students enjoy math.
Lesson plans are custom built for each student in collaboration with the student (and parents, depending on the student’s age); each lesson will include a combination of math skills with applications relevant to each student’s age, goals and interests.
In person lessons can also be set up with my MathFit program, which typically includes 40 minutes of math with 20 minutes of fitness/physical activity/ball skills. Physical activity can help to build focus, engagement/fun and motivation for sessions. As an avid athlete who loves math I see this a perfect combination. This is available after consultation.
