About Sophie
Hiya, I'm Sophie, a Genetics and Evolution graduate with a passion for science, learning, and helping others understand complex subjects with confidence.
My academic background in Genetics has given me a strong understanding of biology as a whole, research methods, and scientific reasoning. In addition, I developed the ability to analyse information critically, solve problems logically, and communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
What truly defines me, however, is my curiosity. I have always enjoyed learning and regularly explore topics across science, health, technology, psychology, history, and many other fields. I believe that knowledge is one of the most valuable things we can acquire in our short-lived human lives, and I genuinely enjoy helping others discover and understand new ideas and put them to work.
Most importantly, I am approachable, patient, happy, humorous, and committed to maintaining a professional and supportive learning environment. I understand that every student starts from a different place, and I pride myself on being someone who listens carefully, explains concepts clearly, and encourages students to build confidence in their abilities.
Whether you are aiming for top grades, preparing for exams, struggling with a particular topic, or simply looking to expand your knowledge, I am here to help you achieve your goals and make the learning process as enjoyable and rewarding as possible, rather than feeling stuck and unhappy.

I believe that the best learning happens when students feel comfortable asking questions and are genuinely engaged with the subject. My goal is not just to help students memorise information for exams, but to help them truly understand the concepts behind what they are learning and apply them to other areas in biology that could link topics.
As someone who has always been naturally curious and driven when learning, I understand that every student learns differently. I take the time to identify each student's strengths, challenges, and preferred learning style, adapting my lessons accordingly. Whether a student needs patient step-by-step explanations, help building confidence, or support tackling more advanced topics, I aim to create a supportive and encouraging environment where they can thrive and think ahead.
I particularly enjoy helping students who may feel overwhelmed by biology or genetics. These subjects can often seem full of complex terminology and difficult concepts, but I specialise in breaking information down into simple, understandable ideas and relating them to real-world examples. Seeing a student gain confidence and experience those "lightbulb moments" is one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching. I can use all types of different methods to learn, from step-by-step guides, infographics, fun quizzes, question sheets, you name it!
My lessons are interactive, relaxed, and tailored to the individual. I encourage students to think critically, ask questions freely, and develop problem-solving skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom. Whether your goal is to improve grades, prepare for exams, strengthen your understanding of a topic, or simply develop a greater appreciation for science, I am committed to helping students succeed and excited to ask new questions.
Most importantly, I want my students to leave each lesson feeling more confident, more capable, and more interested in the subject than when they arrived.
I have taught students in camps such as Camp America as a science teacher, tutored online via Discord groups to students who need help with learning, and then gone on to send ideas to companies, and also taught adults who are just starting university. I can adapt to any age of a person, and any level of knowledge to help better and improve upon.
My lessons can range anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours, depending on the person or topic.
I am a positive person, and I love finding people and inspiring them to see how beautiful our natural world is. If you have this mindset, or want to build it, I would be honoured to help start the learning journey with you.
