About Levi

I am a career ambulance paramedic, registered with AHPRA and employed full-time with the state ambulance service here in Victoria. I work extensively in education, predominantly as a Clinical Instructor and as a relieving branch Paramedic Educator. Over the past 8 years I have also been employed at one of the Victorian universities as a Sessional Paramedic, where I have completed a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education.

I enjoy teaching and seek to make lessons interactive and enjoyable. If you're struggling with a particular topic or subject, or simply looking to excel beyond your peers, I would be happy to tailor lessons according to your preferences.

I particularly enjoy cardiology and ECG interpretation, however am comfortable tutoring on the vast majority of topics encountered during the undergraduate program.

I am comfortable adapting to ambulance CPGs outside of my own, and have now tutored students across most states/territories of Australia, referring to local guidelines and protocols.

Recently, I was unexpectedly asked to help coach graduates for Graduate Paramedic interviews, focusing on STAR behavioural interview techniques. Feedback from participants has been highly positive, and I’m now pleased to offer this as an ongoing service. Alongside this, I bring experience as a former interview panelist for my employer, providing insight into what interviewers are looking for.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I only started individual tutoring this year, but I’ve been involved in workplace and university education since 2016. As a newly qualified paramedic, I quickly realised I had a passion for teaching others – from local ambulance volunteers to university students on placement.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

The topic I’m most often sought out for is cardiology – particularly ECG interpretation. It’s a subject I genuinely enjoy, and I’ve found many students struggle to grasp it when it’s taught in the traditional way.
I’ve also recently begun job interview coaching, helping paramedic graduates master their STAR responses to behavioural questions.
The third most common area I tutor in is preparation for OSCEs and VIVAs – an often daunting task, and something very unique to paramedicine.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My educator role model is my former university lecturer, Marc – an incredibly passionate educator and advocate for the paramedic profession.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe there are two essential qualities required to be a good tutor – patience and adaptability.

While the virtue of patience speaks for itself, I’m often told by students that I have a calm and understanding approach. Adaptability is just as important – I make a point of tailoring my teaching style to suit each student’s individual learning preferences.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I still remember the first time I was introduced to heart blocks. Our lecturer had the whole class in fits of laughter with his analogies about a romantic couple having communication issues. If I can deliver a class as entertaining and memorable as that one, I’ll have achieved my goal as an educator.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

With most students preferring (or only able to do) online learning, teaching anatomy and physiology can be tricky. Despite that, I’m enjoying the challenge of using online tools to create simple illustrations – something I’m continuing to get better at.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I’m passionate about helping to shape the next generation of paramedics. The profession is still in its infancy, only becoming a registered health profession within the past decade. As the workforce leans into its new status, it’s essential that graduates are workforce ready – and that’s where I feel I can make a difference.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I joined Superprof because I genuinely wanted to teach – that’s my primary motivation. Tutoring is something I truly enjoy, and this platform gives me the opportunity to share my knowledge and help others succeed.
