• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I developed an interest in the nursing and biomedical sciences fields early in my academic journey, driven by a fascination with the human body and its complex systems. Over time, I realized that teaching these subjects was just as fulfilling as learning them. Private tutoring became a natural extension of my passion, allowing me to share my knowledge and help students achieve their academic goals.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I specialize in Nursing, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, and Mathematics. In Nursing, I enjoy discussing clinical case studies, pharmacology, and patient care plans. In Chemistry and Biomedical Sciences, I love exploring organic chemistry, biochemistry, and genetics. Math topics like calculus and algebra are also enjoyable for me to teach, though I find the more abstract topics like advanced theoretical mathematics can be challenging for some students, which makes them a little less exciting for me to teach.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Yes, I had a teacher in high school who sparked my interest in science. Her ability to make complex subjects like biochemistry relatable and exciting was truly inspiring. She showed me how impactful a teacher can be, not only in imparting knowledge but in fostering curiosity and critical thinking in students.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  A good tutor should be patient, empathetic, and adaptable. It's important to be able to tailor teaching methods to each student's unique learning style and pace. Strong communication skills are key, as is the ability to motivate and engage students in a way that makes learning enjoyable. Most importantly, a tutor should always strive to foster confidence in their students.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  I remember a particularly memorable moment during a nursing exam prep session. One student struggled to grasp the concept of pharmacokinetics. Through multiple approaches, such as real-life examples and simplifying the complex terminology, she had a breakthrough. When she finally understood the topic, her face lit up with excitement. That moment reinforced why I love tutoring - seeing a student go from confusion to clarity is incredibly rewarding.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

  A challenge I faced early on in my studies was mastering the intricacies of biochemistry and how molecular interactions impact biological systems. As a tutor, I understand that these concepts can still be challenging for students, and I aim to help them overcome these hurdles by breaking down the material into manageable pieces.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  My passion lies in helping students understand and apply complex concepts, especially in the sciences. I find teaching rewarding because it allows me to witness the moment when a student overcomes a learning barrier. I also have a passion for staying updated with the latest scientific research, which helps me keep my tutoring relevant and insightful.
