About Marcel
I hold an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and have a genuine passion for making challenging subjects—especially maths and sciences—feel accessible and achievable. My approach is simple: I don't just give you answers, I teach you how to think through problems so you can solve them independently. That's what builds real confidence for exams and beyond.
I've worked with students at all levels—those who've fallen behind and need to catch up, those aiming for top grades, and those who just find certain subjects intimidating. Whatever your starting point, my goal is to meet you where you are and help you get where you want to be.
I'm patient, reliable, and committed to creating a supportive learning environment where asking questions is encouraged, not embarrassing. I understand exam pressure, and I'll equip you with both the knowledge and the exam techniques you need to perform your best.
Sessions are structured but flexible—we'll focus on what you need most, whether that's filling knowledge gaps, practising past papers, or building your confidence before mocks. I'm comfortable with both in-person and online tutoring, and I always show up prepared and on time.

1. Your Techniques and Teaching Methodology
My approach centres on guided discovery rather than lecturing. I use Socratic questioning to help students reach solutions themselves—for example, asking "What do we know?" and "What operation might help?" rather than simply showing steps. This builds critical thinking that transfers across subjects.
I start each topic by diagnosing gaps. Often GCSE struggles stem from foundational issues—a student stuck on quadratics might need to revisit basic factoring first. I work backwards to find the root cause.
I adapt my methods to each student. Some need visual diagrams, others real-world analogies. If one approach isn't working, I try another angle rather than repeating the same explanation.
For GCSE students specifically, I integrate exam technique: how to approach different question types, manage time, and extract marks even when uncertain. I also track progress and celebrate wins—building momentum matters.
2. Typical Length of a Lesson
I recommend 60-minute sessions for GCSE students, allowing time to review previous material, work through new content, practice independently, and recap. I'm flexible based on student needs—some do better with 45-minute sessions, while exam prep might benefit from 90 minutes.
3. Your Qualifications/Experience as a Tutor
I hold an MSc in Artificial Intelligence with strong mathematical foundations. I have practical experience helping GCSE students with maths, sciences, and analytical subjects, particularly focusing on exam preparation, tackling past papers, and building confidence in subjects students find intimidating.
I'm familiar with major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) and understand what examiners look for. My background in sales and consultancy has developed my ability to communicate clearly, build rapport quickly, and adapt my style to different audiences.
I'm comfortable with DBS checks and committed to professional safeguarding standards.
4. Who the Lessons Are For (Level, Age, etc.)
Primary focus: GCSE students (ages 14-16) in Years 10-11 preparing for exams.
Subjects: Maths (Foundation & Higher), Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), English Language, and other subjects depending on topics.
Student types I work well with:
Students who've fallen behind and need to catch up
Students aiming to move up grade boundaries
Students needing confidence building in subjects they find difficult
Students preparing for mocks or finals
I'm also open to Year 9 students getting ahead or Year 12/13 students needing support with specific topics. Comfortable with both in-person and online tutoring.
My philosophy: Empower students to become independent learners. Success means a student saying "I don't need help with this anymore."
