About Eleanor

Hi, I'm Eleanor, a second year studying History and French at the University of Oxford. I'm offering help with History to keen GCSE/A-Level students, who care about learning and improving.

I know the importance of grades and exams to students, and have really enjoyed working with young people to achieve (and exceed!) their goals in the past. For example, I tutored a GCSE English Lit student from a 5 to a 9 in less than a year for 2023 exams. I have 2.5 years of formal tutoring experience already, so I'm excited to be gaining more experience via Superprof!

Alongside exams, I care deeply about History and learning in general. I want to encourage others to enjoy this subject as much as I do, and bring enthusiasm to my teaching.

Lessons will be catered to the student, but for those who want to achieve top grades (A/A*), they will be focused on exam technique, as this is the hardest part to pick up (and what distinguishes between the high-level
pupils).

I achieved a 9 at GCSE History (2021), an A* at A-Level (2023) and 77% in my Oxford History Aptitude Test, which was 7% above the average for successful offer-holders. I am DBS checked.

About the lesson

Lessons last an hour, and will include both questions on the topic and essay feedback (depending on the student's wishes)
- I focus on understanding of the mark scheme and essay structures needed to achieve the highest grades
- I use active recall to consolidate the student's understanding of the topic
- I am empathetic and can relate to exam stress; however, I give critical, in-depth feedback to push the student as far as possible
