About William
I am a Brunel University history graduate with a strong academic background in international and military history. I specialise in helping GCSE and A-Level students improve their exam technique, essay writing, source analysis, and confidence in the subject.
I began tutoring because I enjoy helping students move from uncertainty to clarity. History can feel overwhelming, particularly when it comes to analysing sources, structuring essays, or revising large amounts of content under time pressure. My focus is on breaking complex topics down into clear, manageable steps.
My teaching style is calm, supportive, and structured. Lessons are tailored to the individual student, whether they need help building confidence, improving written arguments, strengthening revision technique, or preparing effectively for exams.
I can support students studying GCSE and A-Level History across major exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, and OCR. Lessons are adapted to suit each student’s needs and learning style, with a strong emphasis on exam skills, essay structure, and clear historical argument.
My aim is not only to improve grades, but to help students develop confidence, clarity, and the ability to think and write effectively under exam conditions.

My approach to GCSE and A-Level history tutoring is built around the understanding that no two students struggle in the same way. Some students need help understanding the content itself, while others need support with exam technique, essay structure, source analysis, revision, or confidence under exam pressure. Lessons are tailored to the individual student and focused on the areas that will make the greatest difference.
Rather than relying purely on memorising dates and facts, I help students understand historical events clearly and logically, so they can explain why events happened, why they mattered, and how to build strong written arguments. Lessons are designed to be calm, supportive, engaging, and interactive, with an emphasis on building both understanding and confidence.
The first lesson is usually used as an opportunity to get to know the student, understand their current level, identify strengths and weaker areas, and discuss their goals. This may include a short quiz, discussion of previous work, or looking at exam questions together in order to build a clear picture of where support is needed most.
After this, lessons are adapted to suit the individual student. Depending on their needs, sessions may focus on exam technique, essay writing, source questions, revision strategies, historical understanding, or improving confidence and clarity under timed conditions. I can support students studying major exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, and OCR.
For students who find history difficult, I focus on breaking topics down into manageable steps and building confidence gradually over time. For students aiming for higher grades, I place greater emphasis on mark schemes, analytical writing, interpretation, and developing clear, structured answers.
My overall aim is not only to improve grades, but to help students feel more confident, engaged, and capable in history as a subject.
