About Daniella

1 SPACE LEFT FOR ACADEMIC YEAR SEPT 2026 — MAY 2027

I'm an English tutor, holding a first-class degree from the University of Edinburgh (ranked 6th globally and 3rd in the UK for English Literature, QS World University Rankings 2026).

Before becoming a tutor I worked in the Tech sector and bring a structured, goal-driven approach to my teaching that works particularly well for STEM-leaning students and 'creatives' who struggle with structuring their ideas.

Over the past 7 years of working in the corporate space, the word-of-mouth recommendations grew to the extent that I had to choose between the safer, more traditional, option, or be led by passion, which I now have the privilege of calling a career. (Though, to my parents' relief, not before I had secured my place on the London property ladder...)

My experience in Tech showed me the extent and frequency that young, impressionable minds are exposed to AI and misinformation.

I do what I do because I see literature as a critical tool to the development of independent thinking, self-awareness and the creation of well-rounded, young adults that we are entrusting with our future.

Beyond my goal-driven approach to the syllabus, I also foster the development of skills that will serve them far beyond any classroom, such as:

- How to express their opinion clearly
- How to disagree diplomatically
- How to identify bias in language (and consider its impact within the media, for example)
- How to 'read between the lines' (and consider nuance, i.e. that 'two truths' can co-exist from seemingly contradictory evidence.)

Texts covered (non-exhaustive): Shakespeare's Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, Jekyll & Hyde, An Inspector Calls, Unseen Poetry and Creative Writing.

Outside of teaching, I have been a peer researcher for women's rights in government and received funding from a panel of entrepreneurs for my sustainable product innovations.

FREE CONSULTATION

During our free consultation, I will ask for a recent piece of work and provide :

1) An overview of the student's strengths and weaknesses
2) Essay feedback
3) Recommendations for future improvement
4) Suggested areas to inform future lessons

APPROACH

My approach to teaching is highly tailored, taking into consideration the student’s interests, natural strengths and other GCSE subjects to deliver my lessons. I work with the ‘bigger picture’ in mind, encouraging students to connect their present study of English with their goals outside the classroom. I have found this helps with providing motivation, particularly during stressful periods such as mocks and exam season.

LESSON STRUCTURE

I do lessons remotely and set weekly homework via Google Classroom to support your child's learning outside lesson time. If this sounds like an investment that you would be interested in, please do get in touch to organise a free consultation.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

    Around the age of 8, after discovering Roald Dahl's fairytales. 📖 I started tutoring as a side-hustle in 2022, alongside my graduate day job in Tech. What began as a way to reconnect with literature quickly became a full-time project, and I had to make a choice between remaining in corporate or pursuing my passion. ⚖️ Much to my parents' dismay, I chose the latter, mainly for the flexibility of travelling and the ability to experiment with entrepreneurship, which has led me to start a second business in e-commerce. ✈️
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less)

    Poetry is my bread and butter, for sure. 🥪 I'm also big on teaching students why works are written. I.e: for what purpose they exist (other than to torture GCSE and A Level students of course.) Likes :

    * Of Mice and Men 🧑🏼‍🌾🐭
    * Shakespeare tragedies 🎭
    * 19th Century novels 🪶
    * Creative writing 💭
    *A QA & Edexcel IGCSE exam boards ✍️
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

    Subject Expertise & Emotional Intelligence.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

    Some books are boring. Simple as. 😴 But the biggest issue is when this boredom creates a laziness or lack of discipline. (I think picking up poor habits affect students far beyond English, or the classroom). (Chat GPT is great and all, but it cannot sit the exam for you… at least not yet…) 🤖
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

    I love to dance - especially to salsa and reggaeton music. 💃🏻
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

    That's up for you to decide! (But I'd say my knowledge of Gen Z and Alpha lingo is pretty solid) 🤟
