About Matt

If your child is preparing for GCSE or A-Level Spanish, I can help them improve their confidence, exam technique and understanding of exactly what examiners are looking for.

I’m a UK-qualified Spanish teacher and experienced AQA and Edexcel examiner, so lessons are closely tailored to the requirements of their specific exam board. I focus on identifying the areas holding each student back and use targeted practice, clear feedback and personalised resources to help them make measurable progress.

Recent GCSE students have achieved Grades 8 and 9, including one student who progressed from a Grade 5 to a Grade 8.

I hold a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages and a Master’s degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, with over a decade of teaching experience in the UK and abroad, including five years in Spain.

My aim is to help students feel more confident, know exactly what they need to improve and go into their exams properly prepared.

About the lesson

Each lesson is tailored to your child’s individual needs, current level and exam board. I focus on identifying the areas where they can gain the most marks and building a clear plan around those priorities.

Lessons are structured and interactive, combining targeted work on speaking, writing, grammar, translation, listening and reading with exam-style practice. As an experienced examiner, I use mark schemes and assessment criteria to help students understand not only what the correct answer is, but what they need to do to achieve the highest marks possible.

Your child will receive clear feedback throughout the lesson, with mistakes explained and corrected in a way they can understand. Where useful, I also provide personalised revision materials, written feedback and tasks to complete between lessons.

The aim is for every student to finish each lesson knowing what they have improved, what they need to work on next and how this will help them in the exam.

As a language teacher myself I can say that I have learned a lot from Matt. He is engaging, interactive, the lessons are well structured and he keeps it moving, plus it is always relevant. He gives me plenty of speaking time, as a total beginner I find that great and at the end we go over my mistakes and make sure I am satisfied with the pronunciation which is very important in the beginning.
