About Sophie

At the age of four, Sophie developed an interest in music and began learning Suzuki violin with Yasuki Nakamura. Shortly after, she took on piano for 10 years. After graduating Suzuki violin at a young age, Sophie went on to further her violin technicalities through AMEB, where she achieved her Violin 8th Grade and Musicianship 6th Grade.

During her high school years, Sophie was on a full music scholarship at Roseville College and was the music captain and concert master for the orchestra. Having achieved high band 6’s in both Music 2 and Music Extension (by performing AMUSA and LMUSA repertoire), as well as winning the Gordon Waterhouse Music Competition, Sophie feels extremely blessed for having incredible and inspiring teachers and understands the importance that they had in her achievements and development, both in music and her wider world and aspires to inspire her students in the same way.

Sophie has graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from the Australian Institute of Music and more recently has been performing electric violin with contemporary musicians and producers at music festivals and large venues nationally.

Sophie incorporates a mixture of Suzuki and traditional AMEB approaches in her teaching and understands the importance of tailoring her lessons to suit the uniqueness of every student.

About the lesson

I incorporate a mixture of Suzuki and traditional AMEB approaches. I focus on not only learning the notes, but playing with a beautiful tone and meaning.
If you have specific repertoire you would like to learn that is not classical I can also teach pop, electric violin, folk etc.
