About Clea
I am a 19 year old student at the University of Kent in Canterbury. I study French and Hispanic studies, as I have always loved learning (about) new languages.
I am a French native, and therefore am perfectly fluent in French.
Moving to England was difficult for me as I had to learn a completely different language to try and fit in, but it also allowed me to understand how difficult it is to learn a new language, which I believe gives me a certain advantage when teaching foreign languages to children.
I have tutored twice in the past. The first time was with a French young lady who I had to teach English to. The second time, I was helping a French young boy, who had lived in England all his life, to speak French properly, as well as bring him up to the required level for his class in France, as they were returning to the country soon. Both tutoring experiences helped me to understand that each child is different, and therefore they will need different techniques in order to learn the new language.
Although it may seem harsh and difficult, I prefer to only speak to the child in the language they are learning rather than translating, as I have learned from experience that translating from one language to another is much more difficult, and takes much more time than learning in one language.
After all, babies learn to speak by associating a word with an action!
