About Selina
Hi! I'm Selina, and I totally get what it's like to learn English as a kid because I've been there too! I'm currently a first-year Communication Studies student at Concordia University. The main goal of my teaching approach is to make learning engaging and enjoyable. In my experience, a hands-on approach that combines games, storytelling, and creative activities with ESL students—particularly those in kindergarten and primary school—is the best way to promote language development.
Each class is thoughtfully designed to meet the unique requirements and interests of the student. A standard lesson plan might consist of:
- Engaging warm-up
- Vocabulary and Language Building (flashcards, interactive games, storytelling,.. to introduce new words and concepts)
- Age-appropriate reading and writing exercises.
- Creative activities (role-playing, interactive online games, etc.)
- Homework and Review
I'm currently a first-year student in Communications Studies at Concordia University. I received a Senior Year English Award during my post-secondary time and was accepted into prestigious universities, including the University of Toronto, York University, and Toronto Metropolitan University. As an ESL student myself growing up, I understand the immense challenge of learning a new language as a child and the importance of a supportive environment. My approach as a tutor is deeply rooted in creating a warm and nurturing environment where the students can truly enjoy studying. My experience working at an English summer camp has also allowed me to establish strong connections with children and foster a supportive learning atmosphere.
The lessons are designed mainly for kindergarten and elementary school students who are eager to learn and improve their English language skills. Whether they are newbies or have some prior experience, I adapt my courses to accommodate a variety of skill levels and learning styles.
