About Tom
Hello there! My name is Tom.
I love all things history, culture and travel. At the age of 19, I left England to study history at university in the United States, whilst also playing for the university soccer team. It was during this time that I began tutoring history to fellow students at my university.
From then on, I have taught history to students from grade school to college level in 1-to-1 and group settings.
Alongside sharing my love of history with students, I travel the world in pursuit of gaining further knowledge in the field. I write this from Egypt, having spent the past month travelling down the River Nile studying the country's incredible ancient history.
Join me to find out more about the world and it's amazing history!

Sharing my knowledge and love for history has become my foremost passion and this comes across in the way I teach. I show my students that history is an incredibly interesting and rewarding subject and I awaken a new-found love for history within them.
My teaching method focuses on keeping the student as engaged as possible and ensuring the subject material is interesting and thought-provoking. I do so by using a mixture of audio-visual teaching materials and techniques in order to share the subject in new and exciting ways.
Here is one of the ways that I would organise a 60 minute lesson:
- Introduce the topic of the lesson through a mixture of presentation and short video. (20 mins)
- Engage the student with an activity related to the information they have just been shown. For example, for degree level it could be help with structuring an essay on the related topic. (20 mins)
- A short quiz of the lesson content in order to gauge how well the student has grasped the concepts and information of the lesson. (10 mins)
- Conclude the lesson with a summary of the subject and content covered, going over the key points and takeaways. The student would then be assigned either to study for a quiz at the start of the next lesson or to complete an assignment related to the topic covered. (10mins)
I can teach history from anywhere from grade school up to college level.
