About Scott

I am a fully qualified mathematics teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE in Mathematics, with experience teaching at an Ofsted Outstanding secondary school. I specialise in KS3, GCSE and A-level Maths, offering both in-person tutoring across the East Midlands and online lessons.

I have extensive experience teaching mathematics in the classroom, working with students across a wide range of abilities — from those who need to build confidence to high-attaining pupils aiming for top GCSE grades and teaching A-Level in the classroom. In addition, I have successfully tutored students 1:1, helping those who were at risk of failing their GCSEs to achieve passing grades. My lessons are clear, structured, and exam-focused, with a strong emphasis on building confidence alongside solid mathematical understanding.

Academically, I achieved A* grades in Maths and Further Maths and hold a First-Class Honours degree. During my teacher training, I was awarded an award for Academic Excellence within my cohort. More importantly, I understand how students think, where they commonly struggle, and how to help them make rapid, measurable progress.

About the lesson

I run lessons in-person in the East Midlands and online, with sessions typically lasting one hour, though 90-minute or 2-hour lessons can also be arranged. I teach KS3, GCSE, and A-level mathematics, with lessons tailored to the needs of each student.

How we run the lessons is flexible and agreed between parents, the student, and myself. Broadly, lessons usually focus on one of three areas:

Supporting school learning — reinforcing topics your child is currently covering in class.

Exam preparation — focused practice and revision for GCSE or A-levels.

Building foundations — developing a strong understanding of mathematics from the ground up.

I also have home-education resources that I am currently developing, which can be adapted and used during lessons to provide additional structure, practice, and support. These resources can complement our lessons and help students consolidate learning and build confidence in mathematics.

Scott tutored my daughter last year for her GCSE maths. My daughter is dyslexic and has discalcula and has always struggled with her Maths. Scott started in the Feb ahead of the summer GCSE exams and our daughter responded really well - she improved significantly with Scott’s help and achieved a Grade 4 in her exam, something which had seemed a long way off in the February. I would thoroughly recommend. When I asked my daughter how Scott had helped she said “he’s just a really good teacher and explained things in a way I could understand”.

Very detailed explaining, takes time with every question and very patient. Overall I recommend anyone looking for high level tutoring to choose Scott due to not only the high level of knowledge but to pure natural teaching skills.
