About Ella
I have dedicated my academic and professional career to the social sciences. I achieved an A* in A-Level Sociology before graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Sociology and Criminology. I then completed my PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at UCL, specialising in Social Sciences.
For over six years, I have taught and tutored Sociology and Psychology, working with students across a range of abilities and backgrounds. My teaching career began in the state sector, where I progressed to become Head of PSHE and Relationships & Sex Education, leading curriculum development and supporting students both academically and pastorally.
I now teach in a highly competitive independent school as Head of Psychology, where I deliver A-Level Psychology and Sociology to ambitious sixth form students. Alongside my classroom teaching, I am also an AQA examiner, giving me valuable insight into how examinations are marked and what distinguishes the highest-achieving responses.
My combination of academic achievement, leadership experience and classroom expertise allows me to provide students with high-quality, engaging tuition that is both academically rigorous and tailored to their individual goals. Whether you're aiming to improve your confidence, boost your grades or secure an A or A*, I have the knowledge and experience to help you succeed.

My approach to tutoring is centred around the individual student. Every learner has different strengths, areas for development and ways of working, so I adapt my teaching to suit their needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on the student, I may work from the bottom up by strengthening core knowledge and skills before tackling more challenging content, or from the top down by focusing on exam technique and identifying specific gaps in understanding.
My lessons are interactive using visual aids, supportive and exam-focused. I use a combination of clear explanations, guided practice, retrieval techniques, exam questions and regular feedback to build both confidence and subject knowledge. I place a strong emphasis on helping students understand WHY answers are correct (skills-based), rather than simply memorising content, so they can apply their knowledge independently in assessments.
Lessons typically last 60 minutes, although I can also offer longer sessions for students who would benefit from more in-depth support, particularly in the lead-up to examinations. All lessons are delivered remotely, providing flexibility and convenience while maintaining a high level of interaction through shared resources and live discussion.
I have over six years of teaching and private tutoring experience, alongside Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I currently teach and am Head of Department for Sociology and Psychology in a competitive, independent secondary school and have extensive experience preparing students for A-Level examinations. I am also an AQA examiner, giving me valuable insight into exam expectations, marking criteria and the skills required to achieve the highest grades.
My tutoring is primarily aimed at sixth form students studying A-Level Sociology and Psychology, whether they are looking to improve their understanding of the course, boost their confidence, or achieve top grades in their final examinations.

Ella tutored my son to help him improve his A level sociology grade. Ella was professional, methodical and a brilliant tutor whose guidance and encouragement made a real difference to the final outcome. Highly recommended - thank you Ella!
From the moment I met Ella, I just knew that she was a great tutor. Not only does she adapt to the pace you work at but she also takes the time to ask how you are and make sure that you are feeling good before even starting the lesson. I would 100% recommend Ella to anyone, regardless if you have learning difficulties or not, she is perfect for everyone.
I have had a couple of lesson now with Ella and the overall experience has been great. I find the lessons fairly easy to understand and useful as everything is displayed in a very clear way. I would definitely recommend if you are in need of any extra help.
Ella is an extremely organised and professional tutor. Ella worked with my daughter during her GCSEs and allowed for both her knowledge and confidence to grow. Ella prepared my daughter for her sociology exams extremely well and I would highly recommend.
Ella tutored by daughter & I can’t recommend her enough. She has a great teaching style, she’s professional & friendly. Thank you for all your help Ella.
My child worked with Ella over the Easter holidays earlier this year - after being recommended by a very good friend of mine - to further their knowledge in Sociology in preparation for their exams.
Ellas lessons were concise, informative and most importantly engaging which was warmly welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed over the two weeks.
Ella provided a sense of a calmness to the topic, which was greatly appreciated by us, as our child had found Sociology quite chaotic since the turn of the new year!
Not only did Ella bring heaps of knowledge and in-depth understanding of the subject, but also care for our child's needs and expectations.
Thank you, Ella!Ella is a trustworthy tutor because she will firstly find time out of her schedule to attend to you. Also she’s a great listener and ensures your tutoring sessions are worked around what you are comfortable with , making lessons extremely effective. In addition to this she always goes the extra mile in regards to your work , ensuring you obtain the highest grade possible.
