About Andres
Hi, I'm Andrés, I'm a PhD student in my final year studying at the catalysis CDT, split between the University of Bristol, Bath and Cardiff University. I am researching how catalysts work in their application for biofuel production under the joint supervision of my industrial sponsors BP and Cardiff University using synthetic and computational techniques. I have an MRes from Cardiff university (in catalysis and chemical engineering), an MSc from the University of Warwick (in polymer chemistry) and a BSc (Hons) in biomedical chemistry from the same institution. I am extremely passionate about chemistry, and I was fortunate enough to spend some time within industry where I put my skills to use as a researcher and development scientist at Sensient Technologies.
I am an experienced tutor, having tutored GCSE level students all the way up to degree level, both online, face to face, in class and on a 1 to 1 basis since 2012. I have given chemistry demonstrations within local schools and at outreach events. Being involved in various university mentoring schemes has meant I have acted as an extra point of contact for university students. I have taught and undertaken teaching duties through Cardiff university for undergraduate students in a variety of modules, including teaching the 1st year maths classes as well as practical techniques in the labs. My experience enables me to effectively explain complex ideas to all audiences in an intuitive way that is easy to understand.

I understand that the sciences can be a little tricky at times and not everyone learns in the same way. For this reason, I like to encourage students to actively participate in lessons and ask as many questions as they need to achieve a good understanding of the subject. I have a patient and friendly approach and strive to make sessions as enjoyable and fun as possible.
