About Thomas
Hello, my name is Thomas and I am a third year Medical student at the University of Birmingham. I am also about to intercalate in Cardiovascular Sciences at Imperial College London. I am friendly and reliable, and have always been very passionate about science, especially that of the human body! I am very enthusiastic about learning and hope through tutoring I can help others to enjoy learning too! Through completing three years of medicine I have gained a thorough understanding of biology and developed valuable communication skills allowing me to explain complicated scientific problems in a simple, understandable way. I can also give some context into science in the real world! Furthermore, after successfully completing the medicine application process/UCAT, I can provide sessions in medicine preparation/personal statements/interview skills. In addition, I have many hours experience tutoring GCSE maths.

Firstly, prior to the session I ask the students to send me the specific topics they would like to cover. This ensures I am well prepared to teach the session effectively and I can tailor each session to that individual student.
The session will be then split into two parts:
Firstly, I will focus on teaching the basic principles of the topics and ensuring that is understood before advancing to more challenging concepts. I use a variety of methods when teaching to keep the session as enjoyable as possible.
Secondly, when the student successfully grasps the main concepts we can then advance onto working through practice exam questions. I believe these are essential in order to achieve well in the exams. Especially when it comes to A-Level, the mark schemes become very specific and look for key words and phrases, so we will focus on making sure the student includes these in their answers. I also set questions for the student to in between sessions to do on their own which provides a good way to monitor the progress of the student.
Lastly, If the student feels comfortable with most topic areas within the subject we can then move on to help with revision tips and exam technique.
