About Mercede
I have been tutoring individuals in American Sign Language for one year. I was under the close watch of another experienced tutor at UW-Milwaukee where I also was tutored in ASL 1. I mentored most of my classmates throughout ASL 1 and often went above and beyond what was covered in the course on my own! American Sign Language is one of my passions and after you take a class with me you'll be able to tell! While on campus, I lived in a Deaf-friendly community that allowed me to practice my signing skills every day with Deaf individuals, which helped me become more fluent. I participated in numerous Deaf events at UW-Milwaukee that really helped me to expand my vocabulary as well as make amazing connections within the Deaf community in Milwaukee!

I love American Sign Language and am willing to go above and beyond for you depending on your interests. There are 5 parameters in ASL that we will go over before learning any signs that will better help students retain vocabulary and kickstart their fluency. Common themes we will go over are animals, food, activities, family members, letters, and numbers. I believe the best way to learn something is to jump right in! So we will try to sign as much as possible in our lessons together instead of talking. After the basics are learned we will go into sentence structure and how to maintain a conversation. My goal is to have one of my students be able to hold a conversation with me in ASL after mastering the basics. This is a beautiful language so let's dive in together!

Mercede and I use to study together in college and she has always been dedicated to education. She is incredibly passionate about the work that she does!
