About Taliesin

I am a former IELTS examiner for both the spoken and written tests.
I have a Master of Education (TESOL) and Master of Applied Linguistics, and have tried to learn 6 languages (so I know what it's like!)
I have been working as an ESL teacher, in the Academic Writing and ESP (IT) fields to high school, university and private adults for 9 years.

About the lesson

If you're at 5.0 or 5.5, and you need to get 6.0 and above, I can teach you how. If you're at 6.0 and above, I will show you why, and help you to correct to score higher.

Firstly, we will discuss your needs, and assess your current levels for the speaking/writing tests, using the public band descriptors to determine WHY you would get your scores - you NEED to know why before you can fix.

Then, we focus on the criteria that most give you problems - for speaking, that's usually fluency and pronunciation. For the writing, the problems are usually in the Task Response/Achievement and Coherence & Cohesion criteria.

Students will supply their own answers to spoken test questions, so they are unique, natural, and personalised (not copied, memorised, and score lower).

Lessons focus on WHY and how to correct/improve, with specific detailed information. (Students will need to do their own personal study on elements of grammar where required)

Details

Students need to have IELTS 5.0 or higher for Listening and Reading.

Group of 10 lessons held over 2 weeks maximum. Lessons can be 1-2 hours long, depending on student availability (2 hours is usually better)

Group rates available - -10% per additional student (to minimum of 50% reduction per student.. ie, 2 students @ $36 each, to 6 students @$20 each. Learning from other students is very beneficial, and many of the initial lessons for writing are theory based.

This is an introductory rate.
