About Pauline

I have taught secondary school English in some of the best, most academic schools in Australia. (I'll tell you all about them if we get to work together.) I've also taught English in some of the most interesting schools (i.e., Montessori, and some other progressive schools in the ACT and Victoria). As a Head Teacher of English, I've led teams of teachers to design assessment tasks and marking rubrics, and I have helped choose texts for students to study closely. I write and mark exam papers... the list goes on. Best of all, I love literature and poetry and writing all sorts of pieces, such as opinion essays about interesting topics and creative stories about ordinary life. Did you know that if you start with random free writing, you'll soon be able to do all kinds of academic writing too?

About the lesson

I provide online one-on-one lessons, and sometimes small group classes for 2 or 3 friends who want to work together. I support students to become better and stronger at whatever English course they are studying, be it VCE, HSC, IB, or GCSE and others. My job is to help you become a confident writer, thinker, speaker, and listener. I try to make lessons fun - when it's fun you learn, right! I have been a Yr 12 English exam marker and have been a Head of English and school principal. I know how English is taught in Australian schools. I'm a certified Lead Teacher, so I have plenty of good ideas about how to improve your English skills, and I can show you how to love reading and writing!

The free first lesson with Pauline allows you to get to know the tutor and discuss your needs and expectations.

Details

The first 'free lesson' is mostly just a chat to say 'hello' and for you to tell me about yourself and your needs. I will tell you about me and the kinds of exercises and tasks we would do together to improve your skills. If the chat goes well (it will only be 15-20 minutes), and we both feel good about working together, you can arrange a single lesson (pay as you go) or buy a pack of lessons.
