About Brenda
I am a first-generation Mexican American, with Spanish as my first language. Growing up in a vibrant, Spanish-speaking community in Los Angeles, I became fluent in both Spanish and English simultaneously. Today, I continue to use my Spanish skills in various professional roles, including mental health counseling, real-time translation for online meetings, and document translation. I deeply enjoy connecting with others through language and take great pride in helping people become more confident and comfortable speaking Spanish.

I use a combination of techniques to encourage practice, improve fluency, and make the learning experience more interactive and enjoyable. Here's some approaches I take: 1. Conversational Approach: Focus on real-life dialogues: Begin each lesson with informal conversations. Choose topics that the learner is interested in (e.g., hobbies, daily activities, current events). This encourages a more natural and engaging flow. 2. Correct Gently and Encourage Self-Correction: Provide corrective feedback and encouraging self-correction: Instead of always giving the answer, ask guiding questions that help them figure out the mistake themselves. This builds confidence and independence in their speaking abilities. 3. Interactive Techniques: Role-playing and Storytelling: Encourage learners to tell stories, either about their own experiences or from a prompt provided. Storytelling helps develop fluency and the ability to use language creatively. 4. Expand Vocabulary and Pronunciation: Introduce new words and phrases in context: Don’t just teach vocabulary in isolation—introduce words within sentences or scenarios to make them more memorable. For example, "Quiero ir al cine esta noche" (I want to go to the movies tonight). 5. Incorporate Listening and Reading Practice: Listen to Spanish media and Reading together 6. Provide Resources for Independent Practice: Suggest apps, websites, and other materials: Recommend tools like language learning apps (e.g., Duolingo, Babbel), Spanish-language podcasts, or YouTube channels to practice outside of lessons. 7.
