About Imogen

My name is Imogen and I am a student at the University of Cambridge studying Spanish and Italian. I studied French and Spanish at GCSE and at A level (along with maths), acquiring top grades in both subjects at both levels, and I am currently learning Italian at university, meaning I am very familiar with the process of language learning. I can also advise on what it takes to achieve top grades in these subjects!

I am a passionate linguist and am a firm advocate of learning languages as a form of fun, and I would hope to incite this in my lessons.

About the lesson

I aim to create a positive learning environment that fosters confidence in learning foreign languages, which can initially seem a daunting task for many. Depending on the student's level, I would also look to conduct almost the entire lesson in Spanish, as the more immersion the better! Although I am happy to work with students in whichever area they would most like to improve, I would aim to place a strong emphasis on the speaking aspect of Spanish since it encourages students to think in the language, consequently aiding their writing, reading and listening abilities too. Speaking also encourages communication which renders greater engagement in lessons. In addition, I would also draw great attention to vocabulary acquisition, ensuring that students write down any words they don't understand and directing them to resources which can aid their vocabulary revision.

Thinking and processing information in another language can be rather tiring, so I would suggest an hour as the typical length of a lesson in order to optimise the benefits for students.

This is my first tutoring experience, but I am a quick learner and am keen to receive feedback on how I can improve my lessons!

My lessons are for KS3 and KS4, so for students aged 11-16. I would prefer to teach students who are learning Spanish at school, but no particular level is necessary.
