English is more than a subject,  it’s the foundation for clear thinking, strong communication, and academic confidence. That’s the mindset I bring into every lesson.

 I’m an English tutor who works with students of all ages and levels, from elementary and middle school learners building reading and writing skills, to high school students preparing for exams, to college students and adults strengthening academic or professional English. My focus is helping students communicate clearly, read critically, and write with confidence.

 Many students come to me feeling stuck, struggling with grammar, writing essays, understanding literature, or expressing ideas clearly. Parents often worry about grades, reading comprehension, test performance, or long-term academic readiness. I approach English as a skill that can be learned step by step, with structure, patience, and consistent practice.

 As a teacher, I’m supportive, organized, and adaptable. I tailor lessons to each student’s level, learning style, and goals, whether that means improving reading comprehension, mastering grammar and vocabulary, writing stronger essays and research papers, or preparing for standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, or TOEFL.

 Each lesson begins with an assessment of the student’s current level and specific needs. From there, I create a customized plan that addresses immediate academic goals while supporting long-term language development.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

    My interest in English and Literature didn’t arrive dramatically, it grew with me. When I was younger, English wasn’t actually my strongest subject. I struggled with reading speed, with understanding certain texts, even with expressing myself the way I wanted to. But as I kept working at it, I realized that language wasn’t just a school subject; it was something that could open doors for me.

    I started helping classmates with essays and reading assignments, mostly because I knew what it felt like to be confused and not want to raise my hand. Somewhere in those little moments, explaining a poem, helping someone rewrite a paragraph, I discovered how much joy I got from teaching. Private tutoring just became the most natural thing in the world for me.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

    I teach English and Literature, but to me it’s more than grammar rules and essays. It’s about helping people find their voice, understand stories, and express themselves with confidence. I love diving into literature, poetry, narratives, drama, anything that lets students connect emotionally with language. Watching a student suddenly understand a metaphor or fall in love with a book they once feared… that’s the best part of my job.

    Grammar isn’t always the most thrilling topic, but I treat it like the solid ground everything else stands on. I’ve learned how to make even the “boring parts” feel practical and human, because when students start understanding how sentences work, their confidence changes completely.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

    Yes. I had an English teacher who never made anyone feel small. She listened. She explained things patiently. She noticed the students who were struggling quietly and made space for them. I think that was the first time I realized how deeply a teacher could shape someone’s confidence. She didn’t just inspire me academically, she inspired the way I teach. I try to carry her kindness and calmness into every lesson.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

    A good tutor needs patience, the real kind, where you don’t rush the student and you don’t rush yourself. You also need empathy. If you can’t understand what a student is feeling, you can’t guide them properly. And then there’s clarity, being able to take a complicated idea and make it feel simple and achievable. But maybe the most important quality is belief: believing in the student even when they don’t believe in themselves yet.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

    In my first year of university, a classmate came to me on the verge of tears over a literary analysis assignment. She kept saying, “I don’t get literature. I’m not good at this.” We sat together for an hour, not doing the assignment but talking about the story like it was just a conversation between two people. And she suddenly said, “Wait… so literature is just understanding people?” That moment stuck with me. Sometimes the subject isn’t difficult, the fear around it is.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

    I used to struggle with believing my interpretations were “correct.” English felt like this subject where there was always a secret answer I wasn’t seeing. Breaking out of that mindset took time. Even today, when teaching students from different backgrounds, especially those learning English as a second language, the challenge is helping them break free from that fear. I know what it feels like to doubt yourself in English, so my goal is always to make the subject feel less intimidating.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

    Teaching is my passion, without question. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about watching someone grow into their abilities. But I also have a deep love for stories, stories in books, stories in people, stories in everyday life. Literature lets me connect with students on a human level, not just an academic one. Helping someone discover their confidence through language feels like a privilege.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview :-P)?

    I think what sets me apart is how personally I take each student’s journey. I don’t see tutoring as a job; I see it as walking alongside someone who is trying to become better. I know how it feels to struggle with English, and I know how empowering it feels to finally understand it.

    I teach with patience, with empathy, and with a genuine desire to see my students shine. Whether it’s a child learning to read or a college student writing their thesis, I show up fully, prepared, supportive, and committed to helping them succeed. My students feel that, and that’s what makes the difference.
