About Olivia
I am a First Class Modern and Contemporary History graduate. I completed my degree at Royal Holloway, University of London in summer 2024 and was awarded the Francis Robinson Prize, recognising me as the best overall single honours student on the BA History programme, achieving the highest final weighted average.
During my degree, I studied histories from the mid-19th century to the present day, specialising in Genocide studies, particularly the Holocaust. I also developed strong interests and knowledge in:
- The Weimar Republic and Nazi Germany
- Britain from 1916 onwards (particularly the era of Margaret Thatcher)
- The Interwar Years
- Post-war Europe and European politics
- International conflict
-World War I and II
- Memory as a historical concept
- Queer and Women's History
My dissertation, “Weaponising Womanhood: Sexual Violence Against Jewish Women in Nazi Concentration Camps,” examined the gendered dimensions of genocide and the silencing of women’s experiences. It was nominated by my university for both the 2024 British and Irish Association for Jewish Studies Student Essay Prize and the German History Society Student Essay Prize.
I achieved A grades in A-Level History, Psychology, Sociology, alongside an 8 in GCSE History, reflecting my long-standing interest in the humanities and social sciences. History has always fascinated me because it straddles so many disciplines — including politics, sociology, psychology, gender studies, international relations, and cultural studies — allowing us to understand not only how the world we know has formed, but also how it continues to evolve.
I am passionate about helping students develop a genuine understanding and interest in history, not just achieve strong grades. My aim is to make history engaging and accessible, helping students build confidence, think critically, and enjoy exploring the stories, debates, and connections that shape our world.
History is deeply important to me because it allows us to understand how the world we live in today was shaped. It’s not just about memorising dates or events — it’s about exploring the ideas, decisions, and experiences that have defined societies, and understanding how people have lived, struggled, and changed over time.
Through my lessons, I aim to help students develop curiosity, confidence, and a genuine appreciation for history as a living, relevant discipline, showing that the past is not only fascinating but also profoundly connected to the present and the world around us.

My lessons are designed to help students build a deeper and more confident understanding of history. I support students in strengthening their topic knowledge and in placing key events within their broader historical context and historiography - understanding not only what happened, but why, how different historians have interpreted and debated those events, and the impact they have had as history has continued to unfold.
A significant focus of my teaching is on evaluation and critical thinking, enabling students to form strong, well-structured arguments and confidently engage with differing historical interpretations. I help students learn how to critically evaluate sources and events, and I break down how to approach exam questions with clarity and purpose, ensuring they are consistently answering the question and meeting assessment criteria.
We work together to improve essay-writing skills, from structure and planning to refining arguments and strengthening analysis. I also offer support with coursework, proof-reading, and developing academic writing style.
Most importantly, I aim to help students build confidence. History can often feel overwhelming, content-heavy and daunting, but I specialise in breaking material into manageable, clear and engaging pieces, tailored to each student’s needs, goals and learning style.
My aim is not just to help students achieve strong grades, but to help them genuinely enjoy history and feel empowered by their own progress.
